Foreign Citizens of Nikaho

Since July 9th 2012, the Alien Registration Act has been revoked and foreign citizens will be covered by the Basic Resident Registry. For long/midterm foreign registration, the procedure is outlined as below.

To foreigners registering for Long/midterm resident status: The following procedure must be done at Regional Immigration Bureau

  • Submitting the notification of change of Name, date of birth, gender, nationality, or area
  • Submitting the application of the renewal of the valid term of Resident Card
  • Submitting the application of the reissuance of Resident Card
  • Residence Investigation (Permission to extend term of residence, Permission to change the status of residence, Permanent visa, and Permission to acquire "resident" status)
  • Submitting notification of matters for spouse, organization where you belong (Employer or Educational Institution)

Note

  • Procedures can be done at Sakata Port branch office or Akita branch office
  • Special Permanent Residents need to get the procedures done at the city office, NOT the Regional Immigration Bureau.

Reminder: Switching to Resident Card

The Alien Registration Card that you have right now will be considered the same as a "Resident Card" for a certain period of time from July 9th, 2012, so please keep the card. The valid term is as below.

List of expiration period
Permanent Resident (16 years of age or older) Whichever comes earlier: The first day of your application period of renewal, OR Until July 8th, 2015
Permanent Resident (16 years of age or older) Whichever comes earlier : The 16th birthday OR Until July 8th, 2015
Special Permanent Resident (16 years of age or older) If your application period of renewal starts from July 9th, 2012 to July 8th, 2015: July 8th, 2015
If your application period of renewal starts after July 9th, 2015: July 8th, 2015: Until the first day of the period of renewal (Example: If your application period of renewal starts from April 1st, 2019, the expiration date is April 1st, 2019)
Permanent Resident (Below the age 16) The 16th birthday
Other than those above (16 years of age or older) Whichever comes earlier: The first day of your application period of renewal, The expiration date of the period of stay, OR Until July 8th, 2015
Other than those above (Below the age 16) Whichever comes earlier: The expiration date of the period of stay, The 16th birthday, OR Until July 8th, 2015
  • We recommend you update your card to a "Resident Card" at a Regional Immigration Bureau as soon as possible.
  • Special Permanent Residents need to get the procedures done at the city office, NOT at a Regional Immigration Bureau.
  • If you are living in the city of Nikaho and have no Resident Card (or Alien Registration Card) and you haven't registered as a foreign citizen, please get your procedures done at a Regional Immigration Bureau immediately.
